There is a lot to say about birds, especially the rooster, but we are going to keep it simple! I'm sure you know this, but the rooster is the adult male version of chickens, which are the female, being the hen. Chickens look to their mothers for guidance and they also have a sense of time, hence the wake-up call at dawn from the rooster. Chickens recognize one another and remember people.
