Fleeing Giraffe
While this design is beautiful and whimsical it actually highlights a very devastating truth about giraffes. The tallest mammal in the world which is also peaceful, and Herbivorous (they only eat plants) is one of the most hunted animals.
Fragmentation, habitat loss and illegal poaching critically threaten three species of the giraffe, Kordofan, Nubian, and Reticulated giraffe.
They are poached for their meat, pelts, bones, tail, and hair. What if you were hunted for your beauty? Would you try and run from it? That is exactly what this giraffe is doing, it is fleeing from the beautiful spots on its pelt.
Where this hat and when people comment on how beautiful it is, make sure you tell them the truth of their story. Thank you for doing your part and educating the public on this issue. The more we know, the more we can help protect them.
