Music

Not only is Katherine Homes designing with the environment in mind, she is a singer songwriter and plays the guitar. With her previous band, Boxcar Daisies, she has opened for notable acts such as, Nathaniel Rateliff, Trampled by Turtles, Elephant Revival, Joe Pug, and Emmitt-Nershi Band.

After disappearing from the music scene for nearly 8 years to focus on environmental non profit work she released her new solo album, "Speak" on September 10th 2016.  Jamie Mefford (Nathaniel Rateliff/ Gregory Alan Isakov) produced the album and a handful of well-known Colorado musicians contributed in order to create the unique sound it generates.

Katherine hopes that one day her music will inspire her audience to connect with nature, treat others with kindness and tread more lightly on the Earth.

She has performed and interviewed on both television and radio. Interviews, live performances, radio shows, and airtime available upon request.

Lyrics

Colorado Highway

It is springtime, should be raining, it is snowing like a freight train
Just as the sun, comes in and out, casting old southern shadows about
Just as I get, on that train, on that Colorado highway plain
I may move out of this sleepy town, into the middle of a big city
You can tell I'm ready, to get out, when my leaves turn green and steady
But that doesn't mean I don't love you, it just means what it means
That I miss you, and love you, and I hold you, in my heart on a rack
Won't you take me, won't hold me, won't love me, like I love ya back
It is Springtime should be raining, it is snowing like a freight train
Just as the sun comes in and out, casting old southern shadows about
Just as I get, on that train, on that Colorado Highway plain, on that Colorado highway plain

Wild and Free

Don't you want to be wild and free
Living the life of your dreams
I don't care if you're wrong or right, I don't care if you fall or fly, you only get one life. You might as well try, try
Waste not much but give away
It feels much better to stand, under the trees as they bend
I'd rather see you sit, beside the things that grow, from the heart of the Earth you sow what right
Would you rather be mean or would you rather be kind, lift the weight off the shoulders of the lying and blind
To hate at all is worthless
Fall away be kept or forgotten, in someone else's heart but rotten, I'd rather be kind
Be kind
If we fail to sing outlaid, on the sun of a distant God, I would rather choose love
I would rather choose love
Love choose

Sunflower Eyes

I, I flew to you, we both knew, where that would take us
I walk down a road, paved in chalk and gold, which way we do go, which way do I run
I would be unsurprised if I fell in love with your eyes, sunflower eyes (repeat once)
I, I would be complete if you would sit by me, for eternity
But we, we both believe that love would always leave, unless we set our hearts free
Which way do I run... (repeat)

Clothes

I don't know anything at all, about you about me, about anything
I may be quiet, but I would rather watch the wind, words are stones breaking the silence and I would rather be quiet with you
Clothes, they hang on the wall with my thoughts and I won't speak anything, because you won't hear what I'm saying
Life is woven into a song, about peace, about pain, about everything

Maybe

Here we are in New York City, on this peaceful starry night
Here we are coming together, with open hearts and minds
But behind these walls, bombs light up the sky
And I often wonder, why I am safe, and you hide
Maybe we could kill hatred, by being kind, maybe we could do better this time
You are like a child, you are like a child who always sleeps with the light on, afraid of hiding in the shadow for so long
I am a child, I am a child who always sleeps with the light on, but I will not hide in the shadow for so long
Maybe we could kill hatred, by being kind, maybe we could do better maybe we could do better this time

Speak

Don't worry, about what's going to happen
It's already happening and everything that's already happening, is already gone
Speak words of kindness cause you never know, kindness speaks right from your soul
Put your heart in the palm of your hands, give it away even when it hurts the most
When you see a woman across the street, begging for change, you are the woman in reverse
So, give your heart away
All I want to do is take a walk into the woods with you (repeat)
When the snow falls on the ground, it lights up my life with it's whiteness
Honey when you come around, you light up my life with your brightness
Don't you ever be afraid, life is just one big parade
Don't you walk around all numb, give yourself away it's just more fun
All I want to do is take a walk into the woods with you

Put Down Your Gun

Don't you want to hear what I've got to say
Don't you want to hear my side
Don't you want to know who I am, behind this line
Don't you want to meet my family, understand why we hide
Why I fight this war, I don't believe in, so they can stay alive
Put down your gun, put down your gun, put down your gun and rise
Put down your gun, lay them down by your side
I don't want to see anymore bloodshed tonight (repeat)
Come inside I offer you inflames into my home
It's no differ than what you see beyond the comfort of your own
Mine may look a little strange, my food taste a little odd, but you and I are just the same beyond this wall of love
Love
Put down your gun, lay them down by your side, I don't want to see anymore bloodshed tonight (repeat)

Promise Me

This is the hardest thing that I will sing, but I am going to try
I may die, you will live a longer time
Promise me, that when it is my turn to leave, that you will come say goodbye, and not cry
I will miss the way you kiss, the way you hold me so close at night
I will miss the way you love me so, but promise me you'll love once more
This is the last thing, that I will sing, but I am going to try
When I die, you will live a longer time
Promise me, that when it is my turn to leave, that you will come say goodbye
That you will always love this life

Reviews

"Katherine Homes could have released the eight songs on Speak with just her and a guitar. She doesn’t need bells and whistles to make the tracks any prettier. But with the accompaniment of a handful of well-known Colorado musicians, producer Jamie Mefford (Nathaniel Rateliff/Gregory Alan Isakov) makes the tracks on Speak come to life with tasteful, elegant arrangements that highlight the simple beauty, without over powering them — particularly on the poignant “Put Down Your Gun.” - The Marquee

"The album has a unique quality of sounding like the instrumentation was laid down in a cozy but resonant space, while Homes’ flawless soprano wafts above it all as if from the floor of a vast Colorado canyon." - 5280 Magazine
