Join environmental artist Katherine Homes and Outdoor Odysseys for an all-women's four-day art adventure of the San Juan Islands. We will take time to truly disconnect from our everyday lives and reconnect with the wild beauty around us through mindful art classes and sea kayaking! Katherine's focus as an environmentalist and artist is about reminding us just how connected we all are. We will quiet our minds and our bodies so that we can truly connect with ourselves, each other, and the natural environment. We will learn how to mix watercolors, sketch, and a variety of painting techniques that help us capture our surroundings.
One day we might find a pile of seaweed entangled in shells or driftwood, the next day an Octopus taking shelter in an inlet, or some of us will want to run up the forest hills and check out the view from the top. We will choose a subject matter collectively or individually, and have our own self-expression or subject-specific painting adventures
We'll spend 4 days kayaking and plan to see an abundance of marine wildlife, fall asleep to the sound of the ocean inside our tents, eat some delicious multi-course camp cuisine, sip local wine, count shooting stars, and enjoy the best of what the San Juan Islands have to offer. Depending on water conditions, we may be able to do an evening paddle through the bioluminescence! Invite your aunt, BFF, or come solo; you're bound to leave with a new friend.
*This is for beginner and/or intermediate painters with an adventurous spirit. No experience necessary! *Expect up to 4 hours of paddling a day. *Get ready for many "firsts" in a supportive environment! ** We need 8 ppl to run the trip and max out at 14 ppl.** Please plan to be on the island by the evening of July 30th.
Some Serious Ocean Time
We partner up in double kayaks, cruising along from island to island. Kayaks are sturdy and comfortable! We just need an adventurous spirit, some good old fashioned grit, and a good paddle stroke!
Food, Wine and More Food
We are seriously spoiled by our guides! They prepare delicious meals for us so we can focus on painting.
No Sleeping Machine Needed
For 3 nights we get to fall asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the island rocks, sea otters splashing, and seagulls waking us at dawn. Lucky us.
