Winter Snowfall 

In the winter, many forests become quiet and peaceful, with a thick blanket of snow. Snow insulates the soil underneath, protecting plant roots and microorganisms from extreme cold and temperature fluctuations which can prevent damage. 

A variety of issues are impacting snowpack.

Rising temperatures mean warmer winters. Snowfall becomes unpredictable and also turns to rain -  reducing snowpack. Snow melts earlier in the year, leading to reduced water availability during spring and summer. 

This impacts the health of a forest, potentially leading to an increase in wildfires. Deforestation also changes the land and can alter wind patterns and sun exposure, reducing snow retention. 

Reducing our carbon footprint (eating less meat, biking & walking more, as well as taking public transportation, planting more trees and plants, and consuming less) will have a positive impact.
