Indian Paintbrush

Indian paintbrush grow in forest clearings and grasslands across the Western and Southwestern United States and Canada. They are endangered in Canada and threatened in the United States. Numerous species of this plant can be found in temperate rainforests such as the giant red paintbrush found in the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest United States.

Some of the species are annuals (survive one season) where, as others are perennials (survive more than one season). Because it is difficult or impossible for an insect or bird to perch on the pedals, pollination is accomplished only by insects and birds that can hover.

Plants are eaten by wild animals, trampled by hikers, and are picked by wildflower enthusiasts. The species has very high genetic diversity for a rare plant, a condition that makes it less likely to experience rapid extinction.

Conservation efforts are underway, especially attempts to increase populations by introducing and reintroducing plants to appropriate habitats, and carefully augmenting extant populations by planting more individuals. The plant has been reintroduced to its former range in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

These populations will be monitored for the long term, hopefully over twenty years, to assess their health and status.

Generating awareness around threatened species and wildlands through affordable and functional art.

The second I saw this hat I knew I had to get it for my butterfly loving friend for her birthday. She loved it!

More orca hats please! Our family loves orcas and this design is so beautiful. I hope it comes in more teal and blue colors in the future.

We are so glad you love your hat! It does come in teal and blue - via the running hat!! :)

I wanted to replace a hat that I'd lost with a similar design. My old one had a gray mesh back and a teal brim but REI no longer carried it. This one had similar colors and the same design, but trying it on, the teal insert makes the hat fit oddly. If I didn't love the design so much, I would have returned it

Hi Natasha! This hat is a 7 panel hat. The one you previously got from REI was a typical foam trucker. They are very different in style. :) The 7 panel isn't for everyone - it's a bit bulker, doesn't have foam, and wider. :) It's still a great hat! Just a personal preference.

We are an orca loving family and my favorite colors are teal and blue, so it felt like the hat was made for me! Fits well and kept the sun off my face during multiple trail races recently

Ah! Looks like you may have found your favorite hat! Thank you for your support!

A favorite flower recreated beautifully as wearable art!

Love love the print. The colors are spot on, the contrast with the brim cloth is nice. But my head is too small for this style of hat. I’m wearing it anyway, but the other style hat with a patch instead of full trucker is better for small faces.
