Rainbow Mountain and Alpaca, Peru
Also known as Vinicunca, which translates to “colored mountain,” it stands at 17,060 feet above sea level and was once completely covered by a blanket of white snow a decade ago.
Due to climate change, it now displays 14 different colorful minerals, including lavender, turquoise, and gold. This part of the Andean mountain range is inhabited by llama and alpaca herding communities, which constitute one of the few remaining nomadic groups in the world that travel with herds of domesticated animals.
Local communities consider this mountain sacred, so please be respectful when visiting wild places such as it.
